Mansion awaits the happy couple

Tennis star Paradorn Srichaphan and his Miss Universe fianc้e Natalie Glebova yesterday bought a luxurious Bt40-million house in Bangkok's On Nut area to move into after they get married on November 29. Published on September 21, 2007

The star went on to say that his 438-square-metre contemporary-style house stood next to a lake at the Prime Nature Villa estate. The Bt40-million price tag does not include the cost of interior decoration, which will be completed by mid November, ready for the couple to move in. Paradorn promised to invite the press to his house-warming party.

As a perfect husband to be, Paradorn said he had left it up to Natalie to decorate the four-bedroom and four-bathroom house as she pleased. However, he said, the house would be decorated in earth tones and will be equipped with a Jacuzzi and a gym. He said he had also bought the 240-sqm behind the house to build a swimming pool and garage.

Paradorn said that though they initially intended to move to Pattaya, they changed their minds when they saw this house. It had such good atmosphere and was so accessible, he explained. He said they were going ahead with their plans to a sporting complex in Pattaya.

He went on to explain that preparations for the wedding were nearly 70 per cent complete, and that the invitation cards were in the process of being printed. Revealing that guests at their wedding included tennis players Tommy Haas and Nicolas Kiefer, Paradon he reserved the right to prohibit reporters from the reception because he did not want senior guests to be disturbed.

He said he would also be inviting other tennis aces during the Thailand Open matches.

The wedding would comprise of a traditional ceremony in the morning attended only by senior guests and close friends, and an interview-and-photo session with the media at 4pm. The reception will be invites only, he added.

Paradon said publications wishing to carry the news the next day would be sent wedding pictures, while magazines that worked on a later deadline would be sent the photos later.

Natalie said that she was excited about her wedding and that she loved her new home because it was surrounded by nature. She added that her only preparation for the wedding was staying healthy by eating good food and exercising. She also said that she had four dresses planned for the day - one for the morning ceremony, one for the press conferences, one for the reception and another to dance in.

The press conference, with Suttipong "Heart" Tadpitakkul presiding as master of ceremonies, was held yesterday at Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel from 10.30am to noon. Singer Paiboon "Pun" Kietkhiewkaew sang "Home" in dedication to the couple prior to the press conference.

'Ball' looks forward to biggest day

By Lerpong Amsa-ngiam

Paradorn Srichaphan might have no matches to play for the rest of the season, but he has loads of off-court errands to keep him fully occupied before his wedding.

Still nursing a nagging wrist injury, the groom-to-be has so many things to do for the biggest day in his life when he will marry Canadian Natalie Glebova, the 2005 Miss Universe.

The guest list still has to be completed and the invitation cards printed, while the wedding venue has yet to be chosen.

Being so busy making arrangements, the former world No 9 has to delay returning to the tennis circuit.

"Everything is going just fine. We will have a normal wedding, nothing huge like everyone expects,'' said Paradorn, who has been taking a break to heal his tendonitis since March.

Rumours had spread through the Internet and tabloids that their romance had turned sour and the wedding might not happen. But the couple have just had a wedding photo-shoot in a studio, underlining their bonds are still strong.

"She is happy. We have lots of fun together,'' said Paradorn.

The day they will say "I do" is set for November 29 in Bangkok. VIP guests will include reigning Miss Universe Riyo Mori from Japan and two former top 10 players, Tommy Haas and Nicholas Kiefer from Germany.

Despite his absence from the upcoming Thailand Open, Paradorn plans to deliver wedding invitations to fellow players. For him, it's agony to skip the home tournament where he dreams of lifting a trophy in front of his fans.

"It's a pity that I have to give a pass it this year. But fans still have big names like Raphael Nadal and Novak Djokovic to root for. I suggest fans go and watch these guys,'' said the two-time semi-finalist of the country's only ATP Tour event.

As tennis is in his blood, "Super Ball" cannot help catching up with "who is hot, who is not" at the ongoing US Open, where he reached the fourth round in 2003.

"I miss the Tour and imagine that I was there. Hopefully, I can get back to the Tour as soon as possible." But the five-time ATP Tour winner is still nursing a wrist injury. "The wrist is coming along slowly. It's getting better, but I'm not going to play until next year. And I'm not going to rush,'' said the currently 110th-ranked player, whose earliest comeback event could be the Australian Open in January next year.

Paradorn believes he still has the game and the ammunition to return to the elite group. "It's a challenge to do well again after the injury. Hopefully I will get back into the top 50 again."
